Q.262: “Was this your favourite book?”

(The question refers to Joseph in Genesis Chapters 37 to 50)

No, but it nearly is. The Book of Job is my favourite book in the Bible. Why?

Well it shows up the true character of a good man named Job, the angels, Satan, God and the self-opinionated friends of Job: Bildad, Zophar and Eliphaz. These three men sat silently for seven days and nights on the ground beside Job, because they realised what terrible pain he was in (Job 2:13). Job, a millionaire, had lost everything, (ten children, thousands of sheep, camels and oxen) because of Satan’s work.

God gave Satan permission to persecute Job but not to kill him and Satan fully expected that Job would ‘curse God.’ But Job did not!

Job’s three friends spend the next 33 chapters trying to convince Job that ‘…you must have done something wrong by sinning.’  THEY WERE WRONG!

The three friends came to visit job but their advice and ‘counsel’ was all wrong. Well-meaning but wrong and God never did tell Job about Satan. However in the end God rewards him very handsomely. The rewards God gave Job are almost beyond belief.  Great story!! God can do ANYTHING!
