Q139: What is the point of death?

So we can go to heaven! Most kids imagine death to be far away and mostly it happens to old people. Their whole life is before them. That’s how it should be – exciting!

I am almost 80 years old now and am tiring of life here on earth because I get very tired, weary, and: ’…I see an angel peekin’ through a broken window pane.’ That line is from a popular song from my youth (1950s) in which Rosemary Cluney cheerfully sang a song called ’This old House’. It has a great melody and is really a happy song. Her grandad is very old, the house is old and the roof leaks, the door hinges squeak but he doesn’t worry because: ’…he’s a ’gettin’ ready to meet the Saints.’ My Mum made it to 100 years old but said to me one day: ’Oh Peter, I am so tired, I would just like to go to sleep and not wake up.’

For you – you are standing on the threshold of life, dreaming of being grown up and doing great things, and probably a family – and death is far away. That’s very normal and how it should be. Do live a good life and may the world be better for you being on it for many happy years.
